Pocklington Town 3rds 1 – 3 Dunnington Reserves
It was an action-packed game for the YARA sponsored Pocklington Town 3rds last weekend as they started brightly against one of the best teams in Reserve A. An early chance fell to left midfielder to Fin Gant but his effort went narrowly wide. After the opening exchanges Dunnington took control of the game and got a goal to take the lead and despite Pock starting to get a foothold in the game, they couldn’t create many clear cut chances as it was 1-0 at the break.
The second half started in a similar vein as the first with an early chance, but Town again didn't convert. Pock forward Ash Newton went down In the box under a challenge but the Referee waved play on and this led to a quickfire double from Dunnington that sealed the game. Town kept working at their game though but despite a Cal Dunham consolation goal and a late push from them, it was the visitors who went to the top of the division after a 3-1 win. The Chrysalis Mens Mental Health sponsored MOM award went to Cal Dunham for his 90 minute performance and goal as the team are without a fixture this coming weekend.
Pocklington Town 4ths 0 – 5 Goole United AFC Reserves
It was also a tough afternoon for the LANE RENTAL SERVICES sponsored ER County League Division 3 4th team as they took on top of the league Goole Reserves at home last Saturday.
With 8 of Towns starting line up 18 years old or younger, it was literally men against boys but Goole didn’t have things their own way as Pock made a good start, working hard to deny Goole space while creating half chances themselves. Led by a driving midfield performance from Jimmy Jackson and Adam Bagley along with solid defending from Cal Liddle and Charlie Benson, it took Goole 30 minutes before two quick goals from moves out on Towns left flank broke the deadlock. Pock conceded a third just before the interval when they failed to deal with a ball into their area but despite this, the team stuck to their game plan and continued to make Goole work hard in the second half.
Eventually the experience told though as Town conceded two more goals in the second half as despite a good performance, the final score was 5-0 to the visitors.
Congratulations to Towns Chrysalis Mens Mental Health sponsored MOM Dan Croft for a great game in midfield alongside several worthwhile performances from many of Towns young team. The lads don’t have a game this weekend before returning to action away against Flamborough on the 18th March.
Pocklington towns 1st and 2nd teams were without a game last weekend but both return to action this Saturday. The 1sts face a potential title decider at home when they take on defending league Champions Hedon Rangers at the Balk, while the York league Division 1 2nd team are also at home to Rufforth United. Both games kick off at 2pm.
