Senior Men's Saturday Round up

The clubs Humber Premier league 1st team were without a fixture last weekend due to being given a bye in the East Riding Senior cup, the lads are back in action this coming Saturday with a home league game against Hull United FC, 2pm ko at the Balk.

With no 1st team game, attention turned to the CHURCHILL TYRES sponsored 2nds who were drawn away against County league Premier division side North Cave AFC. In a close fought game, both sides cancelled each other out for the most part as Town keeper Craig Coxall came to his teams rescue with several key saves to deny North Cave a goal.

The deciding moment came in the second half as Adam Falkingham powered in a header from the edge of the area to edge Pock to a narrow win and progression through to the second round of the Senior Country Cup.

The Chrysalis Mens Mental Health MOM award was given to veteran keeper Coxall for keeping his side in the game and the team are back in league action this Saturday with a home game against Strensall Tigers in a 2pm ko.

The clubs YARA sponsored York Reserve A 3rd team were also in Senior country cup action last weekend away to Elloughton Blackburn U23s. With player commitment continuing to be a source of frustration for the team management, they were forced into putting out a much-changed team and came up against strong opponents who took a 3-0 lead into the break after Pock were forced onto the back foot for most of the first half.

Things went from bad to worse when Elloughton opened up a 5-0 lead going into the last 15 minutes but credit due to the lads out there on the day as they never stopped working hard and grabbed a last minute consolation when Dave Abblett was on hand to fire home from close range. The team will be looking for a more consistent player availability going forward this weekend when they travel to take on Wigginton Grasshoppers Reserves.

The East Riding County league LANE RENTAL SERVICES sponsored 4th team were looking to kick start their season after two away defeats when they took on Leven Members Club Reserves at the Balk last Saturday. The Leven keeper made a good save from a Jack Snowden effort and along with missed opportunities by Harry Mays and Fin Gant, this led to Pock going a goal down in the first half to be behind at the break.

A positive start to the second half saw a deflected Gant strike draw the sides level before more poor defending allowed Leven to make it 3-1. Town made changes to their line up and this sparked them into life with Gant latching onto Josh Jones through ball to finish calmly on 75 minutes and just when it looked like Leven would hang on for the draw, Ollie Hakner was bundled over just as he was about to shoot to allow Mark Bagshaw the chance to step up and equalize from the penalty spot and grab a point from a game where in general, their play wasn’t too bad but where defensive howlers saw bad goals conceded.

With 7 lads 18 years old or under in the match day squad, this is not a surprise and it is a massive credit to everyone for the way that they stuck to the game plan and worked their way back into getting a result. The team will look to build on this with an away trip to Longhill Ravens this Saturday.

The Chrysalis Mens Mental Health MOM award went to Fin Gant for his brace of goals and quality left wing play.
