Meet The Champions - Jason Barnes

You joined later in the season, what attracted you to the club and how quickly do you feel you settled in?

Mr pock town himself Jack Lockwood has always been onto me to come down and play with him so I decided to give it a go and I’m buzzing I did. The lads have been class tbh and I instantly felt welcomed and part of the team. It’s a really tight bunch of lads and it’s great to be a part of it.

Hedon Away, a decisive game and you had a fair few travelling supporters. Where does that game/moment rank in your previous achievements?

It was a great feeling to win away at the reigning champions and to do it in style with a 4-0 win just adds the icing on the cake. The vibes after the game were next level so I’ll definitely remember that game for the rest of my career and it’s definitely up there as one of the best.

You have played at a higher level, from what you have seen at the club with regards the players and the facilities, how far off do you think the club is from being competitive at a higher level?

I’m not sure of what facilities the club would need to improve in order to promote but the players we have and the squad depth I honestly believe we could hold our own in NCEL Div 1, I’m not saying we would be challenging for promotion but we definitely have the quality of players to survive in that league.

You scored some crucial goals in the run in, which was your favourite?

It’s a tie between two goals really, the last minute goal against Sculcoates was absolute scenes but then to get the important third against Hedon was equally just as good! Bodies everywhere.

What are your plans/targets for next season?

If we keep the current squad we have there is no reason why we shouldn’t win the league again. I've only played the last 5 games but in those games we’ve comfortably beaten 2nd and 3rd in the league so I’m confident we can do the business again next season. I think for us to excel to the next level we have to look at doing the double and winning the cup.
