Meet The Champions - Craig Hargreaves

After many years at the club, did you ever think you would be part of a Humber Premier League title winning team?

After finishing second on a couple of occasions, I probably did think my opportunity had gone. But credit to everyone involved this season, we had our ups and downs but after Christmas we really hit form. We found some consistency in selection and this brought about a string of performances and results. After hitting top spot we never really looked back and what a way to seal it.

What is your best/Favourite moment of the season?

Difficult to top the title winning game with the pressure on that, who it was against and obviously the outcome. But if I had to pick another, probably Reckitts away. We never showed up and were deservedly losing 3-1 with 10 minutes to go. But as we’ve done throughout we found a way and came out winners in the end. A true testament to the character and attitude of the group.

Who has been the stand out player for you?

Where do you start?! I look back and there’s been some outstanding individual performances, everyone involved has played a vital part at some stage during the season. But I can’t look past Waka for his contribution. He’s held together by tape but he gives you absolutely everything on the pitch. He never gives defenders a minute and has weighed in with some crucial goals. He’s certainly one I would highlight.

What are your plans/targets for next season?

Haven’t given it much thought, if I’m honest. If we keep this group together, have the same level of commitment then anything is possible. Adding some further silverware would always be welcome.
