Our u14s couldn't believe there luck after a bizarre run of results over the week leading up to our final 2 midweek games, with both Thorne and Snaith dropping points, the lads went into our final 2 games knowing that 2 wins from 2 would give them the league title.
We travelled over to Snaith Thursday evening 09/05 with the sun shining temperatures way out of the ordinary for this season 22 degrees the lads were full of hope.
We set out with the task of retaining possession in the 1st half to prevent tiring too quickly with the hope of breaking the opposition down over periods of controlled play.
It didn't take long for the boys to realise it was going to be a tough game.
The boys had short spells of good football but gave away cheap possesion early on trying to force attacks and had too work hard to regain the ball,
this led to snaith being quick on turnovers and finding space when we had pulled ourselves out of position, snaith found them themselves on top for the 1st 12 mins or so with no real test on goal they still managed to find themselves ⚽️ 1:0 on the 12th minute.
The lads fired themselves back up and improved quickly with some quick thinking at the back the ball was moved to the left flank and sent into the path of
⚽️ Noah shan getting the better of the defender to convert neatly around the keeper.
17mins 1:1
The lads found themselves on top now with some really confident play, we managed to maintain possession a little better, but were a little unfortunate due to the weather to have a stop in play on 20mins for water break, this made us lose some momentum aswell as composure with snaith coming closest striking the post from distance.
The half finished 1:1.
The 2nd half was much of the same with battle after battle for possesion, after a hard thought battle in midfield we were able to push on with the ball James hitting the bar after a wandering run from the half way line beating 3 players to get his shot away 🤞.
It was on the 42minute that ⚽️ snaith again managed to break away from the midfield battle with our defence missing out on the ball falling loose, the oppo were quickest again and pressed the ball quickest to finish well from Inside the penalty area.
N Shan had a real battle on his hands as we tried to thread balls through from all areas of the pitch he came close on a couple of occasions beating his marker to have shots saved claiming MoM on the night for his overall work-rate and tenacity.
The game really was as tight as it sounds there was not much between the 2 teams with every player stepping up to give it there all in hot conditions.
Games like these are hard on the boys, with very tight margins between teams on another day the result could have been alot different but we learn and go again this is football.
Our final game leaves us out of the race for the title but we look highly likely to get promoted along side the final 2 assumed positions.
Another fantastic team effort aswell as some really great individual duels on the night
